68. Sanguiccio's Tuna Sandwich
Through an astute writer at the
Ottawa Citizen, we first heard of Sanguiccio. Out IT guy then told us of the caffe's brilliant tuna sammie. And we wondered -- what could be so special about a lowly offering like this? Well, think again. First off, Italian tuna. No Mayonnaise -- rather, olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Additions such as green and red peppers, olives, onions, or radicchio, depending: as owner Genio Ienzi says, "If I have'em, I do. If I don't, I don't." (A non-formulaic formula that's led to many an invention.) Then all is piled into a roasted garlic and rosemary ciabatta made to Ienzi's specs just down Preston at Little Italy Bakery. On the side, a little tomato salad, nicely dressed. Really, nothing better. $8.95.
